Library Card September is ‘Library Card Sign-up Month,’ and we at TKCS would like all of our students to sign up for a free library card from their local public library as well as from the Cherry Hill Public Library.

Did you know that public libraries are a necessary extension of your school library? No school library can compete with a tax-supported public library system in terms of variety and volume of materials. That includes both print and digital resources, such as research databases. All school libraries maintain a healthy partnership with their local public libraries in order to offer the best experience to their students.

Each student at TKCS is entitled to a free library card from the public library in his or her hometown plus, as a student at a school located within Cherry Hill Twp., a free Cherry Hill library card. With multiple library memberships, students will have access to a much broader selection of materials for school work and recreation. So be sure to apply for your public library cards early in the school year, and I will be happy to show you how to use the public library websites to request books, download eBooks, and use their digital resources.

I am MalalaMalala Yousafzai has been selected as one of two winners of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for risking her life to fight for children’s rights. Now just 17, Malala was a 15-year-old student in Pakistan when she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman for insisting that girls have the right to an education. Through God’s grace she survived and has continued her fight for the education of girls around the world.

Check out her autobiography, I am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban in the TKCS library.

We are excited to offer our Fall Book Fair via Scholastic Books.  There will be numerous titles from which to choose.  Please note that Scholastic Books is a secular company. While we  have tried to be proactive in pulling any titles that would be inappropriate for a Christian reader, we urge you to talk with your child about choices that meet your personal criteria for children’s reading. To help us meet your family standards as well as possible, if you have any issue with a book your child may select on their “wish list”, be sure to note that on the list or with your child’s teacher.

Check our Book Fair Homepage to find out about the books of interest for your child!

Senior Prank

Mr. Walsh & Mrs. Silverman were greeted this morning by what seemed like hundreds of balloons covering the floors of the Middle School / High School offices

No one is telling who let them in, but early this morning a group of seniors managed to enter the Middle School / High School offices and deposit dozens of inflated balloons, all in TKCS school colors, into the hallways leading to Mrs. Silverman’s and Mr. Walsh’s offices.

What a memorable ending to the seniors’ time here at Kings! The class of 2012 will be missed next year, and everyone here at Kings wishes them well and Godspeed.
