Monthly Challenge Prizes

Read a good book lately? Post a review of that book on OPALS for your chance to win the next monthly challenge prize! Your review must be approved for publication to be eligible for the prize. To make sure it is approved, remember to:

  1. Use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  2. Give a short plot summary of the book (no spoilers, please!)
  3. Give it a number of stars to tell others how much you liked it

At the end of each month, a gift card will be awarded to a person randomly chosen from all accepted entries!

To post your review, visit OPALS, log in to your account, and bring up the book you will be rating. Click on  “submit a comment & rating” above the book cover to begin.

Birthday Book Program

Celebrate your child’s birthday while supporting our libraries!

TKCS libraries have a Birthday Book Program that accepts donations of books in honor of a special person’s birthday. Here’s how it works:

  1. Visit our library wish list on Amazon
  2. Purchase a book from the list that you think your child will enjoy
  3. Once we receive it, we will enter it into our collection and place a dedication plate inside the front cover with the names of the donor along with a special message to your child
  4. We will deliver it to your child’s classroom so they can be the first one to check it out

There is a combined wish list for both the elementary and MS/HS libraries. All donated books should be in hardback format and in new or like new condition. We hope you will consider participating in this special way of celebrating your student’s birthday!

Contact Lorraine Scaffidi [Lscaffidi@tkcs.org] if you have any questions.

Access the library Wish List.

School Supply Lists

Below are printable copies of the supply lists for the 2023-2024 school year. For students entering grades 7 through 12, if a class or teacher is TBD, check back. Some classes are still being finalized and the list will be updated when new information is available.

Introducing ‘Storytime Standouts’

EBSCO's Storytime StandoutsSomething special happens when we share an exceptional picture book with kids. These books can elicit a response that energizes them, which makes them perfect for read alouds. We have tagged these popular picture books in our elementary collection as ‘Storytime Standouts.’ Some of the characteristics of these books are repetition or repetitive phrases, wordplay, alliteration, and energy (although these books don’t have to be happy in tone).

To locate these crowd-pleasing picture books, type ‘Storytime Standouts’ in the search box of our library catalog and search by subject.

National Women’s History Month 2021

March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the contributions of women throughout modern history. One good way is to recognize these recipients of the Nobel Prize for literary mastery, pioneering science, life-saving discoveries and actions for peace and human rights.

Read about some of the women who have shaped our world. How about starting with Malala?
